Sand Dunes.Dunes are produced by the transport of sand by wind, White Sands National Monument, NM. The sand in these dunes is made up almost entirely of gypsum (CaSO4). Despite their appearance, the dunes are only a thin veneer of sand that is steadily moving across the countryside.
