Open to everyone, the AccessSurgery Blog provides a forum for surgical residents and practicing surgeons to debate and share information on the latest advances in the field. We’ll also use the blog to announce new content and features added to AccessSurgery.

Awori J. Hayanga, MD (pictured below) has graciously agreed to join us as the blogmaster for AccessSurgery, helping to stimulate intellectual discussion on the site. Dr. Hayanga completed his medical studies at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland and has received his MPH in Health Policy from The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He served as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. He is an Alfred Sommer Scholar and a World Health Organization World Alliance of Patient Safety Scholar. He is currently completing a Surgical Critical Care / Trauma fellowship and general surgery residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Dr. Awori Hayanga

Dr. Hayanga intends on pursuing a career in Thoracic Surgery but has a keen interest in academic volunteerism, education and the extension of general surgical training into the less developed world coupled with the application of high technology interventions in low technology settings.

On an administrative note, items contributed to the blog do not post immediately. We screen to ensure that spam, obscenities, or other inappropriate items are not included on the site. We do not screen on the basis of intellectual content. Debate is encouraged.

We sincerely hope you enjoy AccessSurgery and the AccessSurgery Blog.
